Tasty Swaps For The Reluctant Vegan

by Tefal Team on 29 October 2020
  • Know you should be eating more plant-based dishes but yet to be convinced by vegan food? Then check out our pick of the best meat-free meals! From brekkie through to dinnerby way of snacks, lunch and bakes, we’ve got it covered this World Vegan Month.

  • Why all the fuss about meat-free?

When Sir David Attenborough urges us to cut back on eating meat to save species from extinctionyou know it’s time to consider a few more veggie meals.

Meat and dairy products have a pretty sizable impact on the planet so a flexitarian approach – or what scientists are calling the planetary health diet  is a tasty (and often cheap and easy) way to make a difference.

  • Breakfast of champignons

With their satisfying texture and tendency to soak up flavours, mushrooms make a great alternative to bacon in a butty. This vegan mushroom bacon breakfast toast is a winner. Need a little more? Then go for a full plant-based fry up.

At this time of year, filling up on warming porridge is a must. Try this creamy oatmeal with the works. For a chilled alternative, smoothie bowls (link to smoothie bowl blog) are tasty option.

  • Treats for a snack attack

Pass up the cheese and quell hunger pangs with this delicious rosemary, garlic and chilli popcorn or a handful of these moreish spiced maple roasted nuts

Topped with dark chocolate, these butter-free vanilla and coconut flapjacks taste even better than they look. Or fire up the fryer and create these irresistible mini doughnuts.

  • Go for lunch

Soup’s an easy option for a meat-free lunch and it doesn’t come much tastier than this seasonal butternut soup with crispy sage and apple croutons.

If you’re more of a sandwich person, this mighty Peruvian sanguche gives a ham sarnie a run for its money. Serve with best-ever chips and a velvetvegan aioli.

  • No dairy baking

Cinnamon, banana chips and lemon icing all help create amazing flavours and textures in this moist vegan banana breadAnd this squidgy chocolate cake is the business – rich, gooey and very easy to bake.

But what about chocolate hobnobs, we hear you cry? Fear not, this vegan version is a scrummy swap. And as for chocolate chip cookies

  • Veg out dinners

flavourful, robust dinner can be a sticking point for meat fans but we think these dishes more than pass the taste test. First off, these aubergine no meat meatballs are packed with scrumminess and a whizz to make with a food processor.

Go for a twist on traditional with this easy vegan shepherd’s pie. The crispy potato topping alone will make you forget all about the usual lamb mince filling.

Liven up Taco Tuesdays with this loaded spiced jackfruit variety. And make curry night a firm favourite again with this curry house jalfrezi; it has the most amazing flavours.

With this round-up of awesome eats, adding some more plant-based dishes to your diet will be an absolute pleasure!
