5 Things That Are Great About February

by Tefal Team on 01 February 2017
  • The fact that it is now February means that Christmas is a distant dream and you can no longer use ‘recovering from the festive period’ as an excuse. It also means the weather is likely to be cold, wet and miserable for at least a few weeks more until spring gets sprung in March.

But is February really all that bad? Sure, it’s got its downsides and tends to get a bad rep, but (PANCAKES!) it isn’t as awful as you might think. There are definitely plenty of things you can look forward to this month (PANCAKES!), even if you do plan on sticking to your New Year resolutions (Uh… protein pancakes?).

If you aren’t quite convinced that there are plenty of good things about February, here are a few things that might win you over.

  • Dry January is finally over

  • You thought Dry January was a good idea, especially after all the Baileys and prosecco of December, but it only took a week for you to realise that a drink would have made getting back to work a lot more bearable. Then there’s the leftover wine, port and sherry from Christmas that effectively sat taunting you all month.

Well, that’s all over now and you can enjoy a cheeky tipple or two and get back to being a bit more sociable. The fact that you’ve finally been paid after Christmas will help with that too… While you still need to drink responsibly and pay attention to your weekly units, the odd drink will certainly make February easier to get through.

  • You've got an excuse to eat chocolate

  • With Valentine’s Day happening on 14th February, you’ve got the perfect mid-month excuse to indulge in some sweet treats. Whether your partner buys you a box of chocolates or you pick one up to ‘share’, we all know it isn’t really the most romantic day of the year without some delicious choccys.

Of course, you don’t need a partner on Valentine’s Day to enjoy chocolates. You can always just wait until 15th February and pick up all the reduced Valentine’s-themed treats. Half-price chocolates obviously mean half the calories (we wish!) so this seems like the perfect plan to us.

As an added bonus, it’s Pancake Day on 28th February (PANCAKES!), so you can fully indulge your sweet tooth, whether you do so with classic lemon juice and sugar, mountains of fruit, or by drizzling chocolate onto your crepes. Or all of the above? Pancakes!

  • No one will care if you flake out on the gym

  • So, you signed up to a new gym membership and made a point of going every day throughout January. You’ve pretty much made your point now so you can relax a bit and skip a few sessions.

We know they say you start the year as you mean to go on, but you can still go to the gym and have a life so February is the perfect time to relax your fitness regime a little bit. You still definitely want to go to the gym sometimes. After all, you’ve got that membership card and are footing the bill for a full year. But it’s okay to dial it back a bit and stop going there just for the coffee so you can still check in on Facebook.

  • You no longer need to live on salad alone

  • After Christmas, it seems to be the done thing to start a strict diet of smoothies, juices and kale in an attempt to shift the extra pounds all those mince pies made you put on. This can take the fun out of food and leave you craving cheesecake and ice cream rather than the avocado on toast you’ve got in front of you.

It’s good to stick with healthy eating, but you can do this by still enjoying some of your favourite foods. February is definitely the month to stop being so strict with your diet so you can still enjoy some treats while being healthy. You’ll probably find it easier to keep the healthy eating going this way too.

  • It's exactly four weeks long

  • Even if none of this makes you happier about it being February, at least the month is shorter than all the rest. In fact, February is exactly four weeks long, so it will be over before you know it.

While the month may seem to last forever, you can happily look at the calendar and see that it’s almost over. And what’s the last day of the month? Pancake Day! And that is definitely something to be happy about!
