Ditch disposable packaging and refill your way to a better world. It’s World Refill Day on the 16^th of June so transform your shopping habits – from lunch boxes to laundry liquid – to help the planet with these quick and simple tips!

Never pay for bottled water again. With over a quarter of a million refill stations globally, simply download the Refill app, pack your reusable bottle and go! Ditch disposable plastic and save yourself some cash – why wouldn’t you?

And with the staggering statistic that it takes 206 million trees to make 500 billion coffee cups globally every year, there really is no excuse not to take your reusable cup out and about. Some cafes even offer discounts for using a reusable. Bonus.

Packing your own lunch makes a lot of sense. A quick sarnie, tasty leftovers or something to heat up at work are all great planet-friendly money-savers. Just remember to store your food in leakproof containers to avoid spills.

If you don’t have time to make it yourself, take a container and get a takeaway lunch minus the packaging. Many places offer this option, use the Refill app to discover them and don’t be afraid to ask your favourite food venue if they’ll do it – you might start a new trend!

And it’s not just store cupboard essentials. Many markets, shops and supermarkets allow you to bring your own containers to make purchases at fresh food counters. Always go prepared.

Instead of tossing empty laundry and cleaning product bottles in with your recycling waste, close the loop and take them along to a refill shop to fill them up again.

Closing the loop means eliminating waste. Rather than being thrown away, that squirty bottle gets used time and again to do the job it was made for – cleaning up!

Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are just some of the goodies you can replenish from green-minded brands. Most refill shops and even some high street stores offer health and beauty refills so check out what’s available near you.

You can even refill without leaving the comfort of home. Glass bottle milk and juice deliveries are a thing again and some veg box deliveries offer zero packaging options. If you’re lucky, you may even have a refill shop that delivers in your area.
