Now that 2017 is here, you may be considering what New Year’s resolutions you can make to try and live your best life.
How many times have you decided to get healthy when January rolls around or joined a gym that you haven’t gone to after the first three months? While making resolutions is a good idea if you want to make changes, setting goals you can actually achieve is the most important thing – so that means no yearly gym memberships.
Of course, this year could be totally different and you could suddenly develop the willpower of a god, as well as the extra time you need in the day to fit everything in. If that seems unlikely, though, why not try one of our resolutions that could make life simpler in 2017 while also making positive changes?

A good meal every day of the week
-
Too many of us fall into the trap of shoving a ready meal in the microwave, throwing some frozen carbs into the oven or picking up the phone to order a takeaway when we can’t be bothered to make a proper meal.
Make it your resolution to make a full, tasty and healthy-ish meal every day of the week this year. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the odd dinner out or indulge in a Chinese or Indian a couple of times, but setting this goal could see you eat better and save money.
You don’t even need to put in hours of preparation as the Cook4Me allows you to whip up practically anything for up to six people in as little as 30 minutes. If this doesn’t help you stick with this resolution – and avoid cereal for dinner – we don’t know what will!
-
Keep up with your laundry
-
What’s that? You need the only top that goes with those trousers but it’s still at the bottom of the wash basket? We know that laundry is hardly the most exciting part of your day, but too many of us leave it as long as we can and have to try and put outfits together with the dregs of our wardrobe.
Make this year the year of change, the year when you actually remember to put a load of washing on every time your basket has enough dirty clothes in it. More than that, make it the year of remembering to then hang the wet washing up and iron it before putting it away.
We know that this all sounds far from thrilling, but if it makes life easier, it can’t be bad. You can make things quicker and simpler still by making sure you have a decent iron, which will cut through creases and let you get back to more fun activities. You’ll be surprised at just how big a difference this will make.

Make the food on your Pinterest boards
-
Do you have a Pinterest board that is full of recipes you thought looked great and that you want to try but have never gotten around to? Rather than adding to this in 2017 with yet more recipes that never see the light of your kitchen, make it your resolution to actually cook some of them.
Even if you’ve never made something similar before, you might as well give it a whirl and see if you can discover another family favourite. Sure, you might find out that you should never ever try and make bread again or you might find that it’s your calling to open your own bakery.
You’ll never know until you’ve tried, so get on it – and maybe replace some of your old kitchen utensils while you’re at it.
-
Count your steps rather than hours at the gym
-
One of the easiest ways to improve your fitness and get more exercise in is simply to put one foot in front of the other. You’ll be surprised at the difference that walking more can make, especially as it can help you lose weight and improve endurance.
Too many of us take the easy route and jump in the car or on the bus, even for short journeys. This New Year, cut out the middleman and get your 10,000 steps a day in. Walking to work, being more active during the day and even hopping on a treadmill can help you feel healthier.
You never know, doing this might even help you get to the gym eventually and make the most of your membership.
What New Year’s resolutions are you planning on making this year?
