Details of GBBO’s 2020 return have been harder to come by than a Hollywood handshake until now. But with series 11 back on the screens, we’re getting in the aking mood by answering all your burning questions…
-
When’s it on?
Bake Off is on Channel 4 every Tuesday at 8pm.
Who’s hosting?
Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith continue to judge and Noel Fielding returns for his 4th year. But following Sandi Toksvig’s publicised departure back in January, comedian Matt Lucas joins the cast to tuck into some fabulous bakes.
When was it filmed?
Lockdown scuppered the usual timings, but after a delayed start filming finally got underway in July and wrapped in August. Unlike previous years, the whole series was filmed in just six weeks with an intense two days on, two days off schedule.
-
How did they film it?
By all accounts, this year’s filming was no easy task. The show’s cast and crew lived in a self-contained bubble for six weeks in order to film safely. They were also required to self-isolate for nine days and take 3 COVID-19 tests before they could join everyone.
And because of the new filming schedule12 practice kitchens were built for the bakers to use on their days off. Talk about pulling out all the stops!
Where did it take place?
Other big news for 2020 includes a change of location from beautiful Welford Park. The new secret location was recently revealed as the rather splendid Down Hall Hotel in Essex.
Who are this year’s contestants?
Find out all about this year’s contestants, including who’s exited the tent so far (no spoilers in this blog!)

How's about some baking inspo!
Bake of course! Nothing gets us in the Bake Off spirit like whipping up some iced buns or a gooey chocolate sponge.
This beautiful blackberry pound cake makes great use of juicy seasonal berries. And we just love former contestant Benjamina’s pretty cinnamon and espresso biscuits.
Try your hand at this sensational red velvet cake and these scrumptious banoffee cupcakes – a cinch to make with the help of the clever Cake Factory.
If you’ve got your sights set on a showstopper, tackle this fabulous white chocolate and strawberry ice cream cake. It’s easier than it looks, but we won’t tell 😉
All together now: On your marks, get set… bake!
