Dough-licious: Making Bread at Home

by Tefal Team on 24 May 2019
  • Bread is back, fact. Not just the humble sliced white variety – we’re talking sourdoughs, seeded baps and a tasty selection of bakes from all over the globe.

And thanks to the huge popularity of a certain channel hopping baking programme, there’s been a big rise (that’s bread humour) in home baking. With just a few store cupboard ingredients and a bit of time, you’ll be amazed at what you can create from the comfort of your own kitchen. So what are you waiting for?

  • Make flatbreads like a pro

Even a total baking novice can knock out a flatbread. The dough doesn’t need a lot of kneading and they’re quick to cook up in a frying pan.

Try this super simple recipe from Jamie Oliver to test out your flatbread skills. Serve up for friends and family with a crowd-pleasing chicken shawarma. Then sit back and let the compliments roll in.

  • Easy peasy pizza

Once you’ve made your own pizza dough, you’ll never look back. It’s quick, easy and the perfect way to include all your favourite toppings (hello, leftover curry). Kids can’t resist an opportunity to mess up a work surface so this is a great way to get them cooking too.

It’s back to Jamie for this basic pizza recipe. While the dough’s rising, throw together the tomato sauce, tear up the mozzarella and chop extra ingredients of your choice to pop on top.

  • Super simple chapatis

Is there anything more satisfying than mopping up a spicy sauce with a freshly baked chapati? Then picture this – making your own at home means you’ll never have to go without. With as little as three ingredients, a foolproof recipe and a shallow frying pan or chapatti pan, you’re good to go.

Why not cook up this delicious fruity king prawn & mango recipe from Eats Amazing while you’re at it? We guarantee wiped-clean plates all round.

  • Lovin’ loaf

Ready to take your baking to the next level? Once you’ve mastered the flatter end of the bread range, trying your hand at a cob loaf is a logical next step.
There’s a little bit more to it: lots of kneading, proving, knocking back and more proving before it goes in the oven. But the result is a crusty round loaf that will fill your kitchen with mouthwatering bread baking smells in the process – definitely worth the extra effort.

This simple white cob loaf recipe has an easy to follow step-by-step guide. Tuck in while it’s still warm with lashings of butter.
