7 Simple Cake Recipes With A Twist

by Tefal Team on 27 September 2016
  • Cake is amazing. It’s a fact of life. As much as we want to eat healthily and be superfit, cake is always there, tempting us with its spongy goodness and moist fillings.

For someone trying to resist the temptation of cake, is there any harder time of year? Not only have you got Great British Bake Off serving up a weekly dose of delicious entertainment on our TV screens, but you’ve also got more time to catch-up with friends now that the kids are back at school, Halloween is coming up, and then it’s Christmas!

However if there’s one perfectly good excuse for falling off the no-bake bandwagon, then it’s the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, which this year falls on Friday 30th September.

  • Raising money for a great charity is the perfect reason to get baking and enjoy some cake with friends or colleagues.

If you’re not that confident in the kitchen, or just need some inspiration on what to bake, we’ve put together a list of some simple cake recipes for you – all with a clever twist that will make your creation stand out (in a good way!) at the office cake sale.

    • Pink Grapefruit Drizzle Cake

Lemon drizzle cakes are a staple of anyone who’s just started baking. But if you take one in for a cake sale, you’re unlikely to be the only one. Give your drizzle a twist by opting for pink grapefruit rather than lemon. This simple creative take on a favourite from Baking a Mess is sure to impress.

    • Biscoff Banana Bread

Banana bread is another cake sale classic, but Forever Baking’s twist takes it to a whole new level. The caramel taste comes from the combination of Biscoff spread and biscuits and balances perfectly with the banana bread. Just avoid eating all the Biscoff before it goes into your recipe!

    • Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you thought quinoa was just for savoury dishes (or had no idea what it was for at all) then here’s a new idea for you from Well Worn Whisk – use it in cookies! Using them as a replacement for oats adds a nutritional boost to these cookies, but they’re still a treat to be enjoyed.

    • Sweet Potato, Banana and Coconut Cakes

If you want to bake something a bit healthier, these sweet potato cakes from Sugar Thumb are a great option. Trisha says they were born out of wanting to satisfy a sweet tooth and fit into a bikini, so if your office is on a health kick then these will go down well at the coffee morning.

    • Kinder Bueno Croissants

Probably the easiest recipe in our list, but also one of the tastiest! Iced Jems simply combines Kinder Bueno with some puff pastry and you’re almost there! Very easy to make, but delicious and sure to impress Sue from Accounting.

    • Pumpkin Muffins with Maple Crunch

Now that pumpkin is in season, we can’t resist these savoury muffins from The Little Loaf. If you think a coffee morning is a bit early to be tucking into chocolate cake (it’s not, FYI), then these savoury muffins are for you. Definitely a good use of pumpkin once you’ve scooped it out for carving.

    • Dark Chocolate & Cherry Weetabix Muffins

Weetabix in a cake might seem a bit odd, but we’re bringing you cakes with a twist and these are scrummy! Laura from I’d Much Rather Bake Than… has a selection of Weetabix cakes but these muffins are perfect for a cake sale. Easy to make, and just small enough that you can easily justify having another one. And another one. Oh, go on then, one more.
