5 Surprising Grill Recipes You Might Not Have Thought Of

by Tefal Team on 14 June 2017
  • If there’s one type of cooking that is always popular once summer arrives, it’s grilling. We all love an excuse to get the barbecue out and enjoy some of our grilled favourites when the sun is shining.

Even if you’re lucky enough to enjoy good weather this season, you can still enjoy delicious grilled food by cooking everything on an OptiGrill. In fact, this makes cooking even easier as your meals can be cooked at the press of a button!

However you like to grill your meals, there’s no denying that we often end up sticking to the same meals. Although a perfectly barbecued burger or grilled sausage are incredibly satisfying, there are plenty of other things you can throw on the grill.

To help you broaden your grilling horizons, we’ve had a look for some fantastic recipes that you might not have thought of trying.

  • Chorizo stuffed squid

We all know you can cook fish and meat on a grill, but many of us don’t get too adventurous with this. Switch things up a bit by trying your hand at making stuffed squid. This delicious recipe from Food Stories features soft squid and spicy chorizo that is sure to smell amazing, as well as get your mouth watering.

Just be sure you turn your squid over in good time when grilling it to stop it overcooking. Similarly, reduce the overall cooking time if you’re using an OptiGrill, as it will cook it on both sides at the same time.

  • French toast

If you’re looking for a sweet, filling and absolutely delicious option, French toast is definitely a winner. You can dish it up for breakfast or as a dessert, topped with syrup, fruit, ice cream or anything else you fancy.

On top of this, it’s really easy to make, especially if you follow Pinch My Salt’s recipe. Not only can you make this in a pan, you can cook it on a barbecue or your OptiGrill, both options will give a nice crispy outside while keeping the bread nice and soft on the inside.

  • Grilled naan with garlic scape chutney

Whether you’re after a tasty warm sandwich idea or a side for your favourite curry, grilled naan bread is a great option and is easier to make than you might think. Once you have your dough, you can fill it with anything you like if chutney doesn’t float your boat, popping your prepared naans on the grill to ready in minutes.

Try Feasting at Home’s seriously good recipe and whip up fresh bread on your barbecue or OptiGrill in no time at all. You could even cook the bread to serve with burgers, giving a fresh spin on your favourite barbecue option.

  • Caramelised grilled pineapple

Pineapple is the taste of summer and is also fantastic for cooking on the grill, especially if you want a lovely caramelised texture and taste. You can serve it on it’s own, on your french toast or with ice cream for a great end to any meal.

Carlsbad Cravings gives great tips on getting the perfect grilled pineapple, which is sure to become a firm favourite no matter how you serve it. The orange chilli glaze is also something totally different and works well with both sweet and savoury dishes.

  • Greek quesadillas

If you’ve never made quesadillas at home, you’re missing out. You can put almost anything in quesadillas – that’s right, you don’t need to stick with Mexican-inspired fillings – and they are pretty easy to make. While you can cook them in a frying pan, putting them on the grill gives a great look and is really easy, especially when using an OptiGrill.

For something a bit different, why not go for fresh Greek flavours with this stunning recipe from A Couple Cooks? Of course, you could also get adventurous and create your own quesadillas using the same method for cooking them.
