So, it’s not enough that we get a heap of presents on December 25th; apparently we need a little gift every day in the 24 days leading up to Christmas too.
And it’s no longer a nice little picture or even a chocolate each time you open the door on an advent calendar. Now, the countdown to Christmas includes everything from gin to beef jerky.
That’s right, the latest product to hit this market is a meat-filled version with the ever so catchy name: O Holy Cow Advent Calendar.
From December 1st, you could be tracking the progress towards Christmas with flavours like root beer habanero and chilli lime.

The beef jerky calendar is made by a company called Man Crates and is emblazoned with artwork of cows dressed up in Victorian clothes doing a bit of carol singing.
Man Crates has included a product description of the O Holy Cow Advent Calendar entitled ‘The Twelve Flaves of Christmas’ as part of its listing.
It states: “Forget the French hens and geese a-layin’. Nothing says “Mooey Christmas” like twelve festive flavours of jerky: whiskey maple, chilli lime, ghost pepper, and more.
“There’s no telling what seasonal surprise he’ll discover that day; the only guarantee is that it will be delicious.”
-
It concludes: “The Jerky Advent Calendar is the ultimate carnivore, candied countdown celebrating 25 delicious December days.”
So, if you have a spare £62 lying around and love a bit of beef jerky, then this could be the advent calendar for you.
For those who aren’t keen on a daily dose of meat, but want an indulgent advent calendar of their own, there are plenty of other options around.
There are calendars with gin, whisky and even small bottles of wine behind each door, while biscuits, marshmallows and cereal will whet your appetite every day.

Gym bunnies will be desperate to get their hands on a protein advent calendar, as that is also a trend this year.
It doesn’t just end with stuff you can eat or drink either, as beauty brands are releasing calendars full of everything from nail polish to perfume.
The likes of Play-Doh and Playmobil offer calendars too. Basically, whatever you’re into, there’s an advent calendar to match. And there are even versions for pets on sale too.
