Leftover Easter Choc: Ultimate Meltdown

by Tefal Team on 05 April 2018
  • Had enough of chocolate yet? ‘Is that even possible?’ we wonder, having spent every moment since Easter Sunday with chocolate-smeared mouths, as we try to lick more chocolate off our fingers, while contemplating whether to open another bag of Mini Eggs.

  • There probably are only so many Easter eggs one person can physically eat before the novelty of egg-shaped chocolate wears off slightly though. We’re not sure how many, as we’re currently on 12 and not bored yet…

…but when we do decide that enough is enough, we’ll be melting down our leftover chocolate and trying out some of the eggs-cellent (yes, we can hear you groaning, but it’s surely a crime not to include that at least once in any Easter-related article) recipes for using up Easter choc:

  • Oh so moreish chocolate truffles

One of the absolute easiest treats to make out of melted-down Easter eggs is chocolate truffles. Literally all you need is chocolate and double cream, which you’ll need to use to create a ganache, as explained in this recipe from Sugar Rushed.

  • This truffle recipe is so versatile; you could add a few drops of your favourite alcoholic drink to the ganache, mix through some finely chopped nuts or chocolate chips, crush up some Mini Eggs in there to add a bit of pastel colour, or simply roll them in icing sugar or more chopped chocolate.

  • Chocolate dip, for whatever you like

Melting leftover Easter eggs down to make a chocolate dip is another eggs-tremely (sorry) good idea. Serendipity Bakes has a recipe for a hot chocolate dipping sauce that is really easy to make and perhaps even a little bit life-changing.

The recipe is to go with homemade churros, but if you’re making an attempt at being a bit healthier after your gorging over the Easter weekend, you could dip strawberries or sliced banana in it too – or anything you like really.

  • Is there anything that wouldn’t taste all the more exceptional dipped in melted chocolate? Chunks of cheese? Salt and vinegar crisps? Chicken nuggets? We’re not here to judge. *Grabs leftover cold pizza crust and dunks in chocolate dip*.

  • Chocolate chilli con carne

Chocolate recipes don’t have to be sweet. Now, don’t worry, we’re not really going to include a recipe for chocolate-dipped chicken nuggets. But melting a few chunks of leftover Easter egg into a homemade chilli con carne tastes pretty amazing. Adding chocolate to the dish gives the meal a much deeper, richer flavour.

  • Looks Good Let’s Eat has a great recipe for chilli con carne with a hint of chocolate, which is super healthy if you use lean meat and pack it with veg, with the choc adding just a little bit of indulgence.

  • Ultimate hot chocolate

Still thinking about that chocolate dip from earlier and wishing you could drink it by the mugful? Us too. Well, there’s nothing actually stopping us except ourselves. And we suppose the fact it’s so rich it might make us sick…

However, breaking off a bit of Easter egg and melting it into your usual hot chocolate would be a gorgeous – and much less sickly – alternative. Simply stir in the chocolate until it’s fully melted and indulge. So easy, but so decadent, and so so good.

  • Tip: A curved piece of Easter egg would make an excellent hot chocolate scoop, if you feel the need for an edible spoon – who doesn’t?

  • Show-stopping chocolate shard cheesecake

There’s just something about chocolate shards that looks incredibly elegant and impressive, even though they’re actually just broken bits of chocolate. If you can bear to break up your Easter eggs – go on, be brave – they’ll lend themselves perfectly to making chocolate shards, that’ll sit brilliantly atop this no-bake cheesecake from Ooh-Look.

  • With no baking, it’s super easy to make, but is still a gorgeous showstopper, and an extremely Instagrammable use for any leftover Easter eggs.

  • Decadent chocolate ice cream

It might not be peak ice cream season just yet, but *fingers crossed* it will be soon, and using some of your uneaten Easter eggs to make a simple chocolate ice cream is a great way to use them up.

  • This recipe for no-churn chocolate ice cream from The Petite Cook only uses a few easy-to-come-by ingredients, and it’s seriously so worth the effort now, so you’ve got some yummy ice cream ready to cool you down on hot days later in the summer – they will come, we promise.

If you’ve made it to the end of this post with Easter eggs still waiting to be eaten, well done! If you weren’t quite so strong and now need more so you can make your own truffles, remember the days after Easter are absolutely brilliant for finding discounted eggs in the supermarkets. You can thank us for the tip later.
