Seasonal Recipes For a Delicious September

by Tefal Team on 14 September 2017
  • The imminent arrival of autumn may have us feeling sad that summer is soon to come to an end – especially as it seems like we’ve barely had a sunny summer – but there are good points to the change in season.

One of the best things about autumn has to be the food that it brings with it. No, we don’t mean the pumpkin spice latte or everything else pumpkin flavour that follows it. There are loads of fantastic ingredients that come into season in autumn that can be used to create delicious dishes.

While you may not want to start thinking about warming dishes ready for the colder weather just yet, there is a lot you can do with the ingredients coming into season this month so you can still hang onto summer a little longer.

For some seasonal inspiration, here are a few meals that make the most of fantastic produce and that could easily become family favourites:

    • Mozzarella-stuffed aubergine rice balls

Aubergine is in season this September, making this recipe from Amuse Your Bouche a great one to try this month. While aubergine can have a bad reputation for being on the slimy side, this recipe means you get all of the flavour and a fantastic texture that will have you coming back for seconds. Serve them up with a smoky tomato sauce and you’ll definitely be onto a winner.

    • Pork medallions with apricot and leek sauce

You’ll soon see a lot of apricots on the supermarket shelves because they will be ready to eat this month. This little fruit works just as well in savoury meals as it does in sweet dishes, as this recipe from the Greedy Gourmet proves. When the weather starts to get a bit colder, this meal will definitely warm you up.

    • Sausage-stuffed cabbage rolls

When you think of cabbage, your mind probably goes to school dinners or the overcooked green leaves on a Sunday roast. However, cabbage is a fantastic ingredient and is incredibly healthy, so you should give it another chance. Try this recipe from Lavender and Lovage and you’re sure to develop a new-found respect for this humble veggie.

    • Ginger pear puff pastry tart

Pears also come into season this month, meaning they serve as a great alternative to apples in lunchboxes. On top of this, you can make some delicious desserts that are ideal for both warm and cool days. Try this recipe from Fork Knife Swoon to dish up a simple but tasty pudding that can be served with hot custard or vanilla ice cream.
