8 Things To Do With Strawberries

by Tefal Team on 20 June 2016
  • Not that you’d be able to tell from looking out of the window, but summer has come to the UK! There are some things that are just an unavoidable tradition when it comes to the great British summer; the high likelihood of a downpour is one… the delicious sweetness of the strawberry is another.

Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits in the world and were first brought to Europe by a French engineer who cultivated a larger, juicier and sweeter variety than the native South American berry.

  • Not only are they undeniably delicious, strawberries are also pretty good for you. They owe their bright red colour to high levels of anthocyanidin and contain powerful antioxidants.

Ultimately we can’t think of any reason not to enjoy this classic British berry, especially when there’s such a wide variety of ways to enjoy them; we’ve picked our favourites below:

    • Strawberries and cream cupcakes

You can’t beat classic strawberries and cream! These strawberries and cream cupcakes with white chocolate buttercream from Emily’s Recipes & Reviews are the very meaning of indulgence. With a simple sponge base, Emily keeps the buttercream simple too which results in a finished treat that looks adorable and is incredibly easy to make.

    • 3‐minute strawberry parfait

Three ingredients, three minutes and a beautiful dessert at the end of it? Believe it or not it is possible, brought to life by Debs aka Wilde Orchard. Her 3‐minute strawberry parfait only needs strawberries (of course!), Greek yoghurt and tea biscuits (and a little sugar and vanilla to flavour the yoghurt).

    • Strawberry soup

We don’t imagine this is one you’re expecting, but how about giving our strawberry soup a try? A fantastic fruity mix of strawberry and orange, with a dash of Grand Marnier, it’s super‐simple to make. Just mix all the ingredients in a pressure cooker and minutes later, strawberry soup is served!

    • Lemon & strawberry bundt cake

Here’s a great recipe to enjoy with a cup of tea on a Sunday afternoon or to impress at a garden party: Sophie’s lemon, strawberry and white chocolate bundt cake looks as good as it tastes. Nothing says summer more than strawberries and lemons and this make a nice alternative to the classic Victoria sponge.

    • Strawberry, banana and oat smoothies

We love Charlie’s clean eating recipes on The Kitchen Shed and this recipe for strawberry, banana and oat smoothies is no exception. Quick, delicious and perfect for a breakfast on the go, this ridiculously easy recipe is perfect for an energy boost to kick off the day.

    • Strawberry wine

If you like the idea of a strawberry drink but you’re after something a little more unusual (and you’re up for a bit of home‐brewing), how about tackling this recipe for strawberry wine? Technically you’ll also be whipping up a little bit of history, as the earliest recipe discovered for strawberry wine dates back to 1745!

    • Strawberry and banana loaf

This strawberry and banana loaf really is ever so sweet, from Kirsty’s blog of the same name. This recipe takes the classic banana bread and brightens up the texture and flavour with the addition of the strawberries. While we might have been able to kid ourselves that this is technically healthy and giving us two of our five a day, we think the serving suggestion to toast it with Nutella would definitely push that over the edge!

    • Strawberry and basil scones

Strawberries doesn’t always necessarily have to mean sweet. Taking another British classic with a twist, we think these strawberry and basil scones are more than a little bit genius. Wendy aka Moral Fibres also has a fantastic recipe for strawberry butter (see link above) which makes the perfect accompaniment to this light and quick afternoon treat.
