Is it Okay to Wear Pyjamas on The School Run?

by Tefal Team on 08 September 2017
  • This week we all watched as Prince George was toddled off to his first day at school and social media feeds filled with pictures of excited kids in their pristine uniforms. Fast forward a few months and the scene will be a little bit different.

Trousers may be starting to fray and a shadow of an ink stain you’ve scrubbed at for what seemed like an age is still visible on what was once a crisp white shirt. Sigh… what started with such promise has undergone an inevitable transformation.

And while you continue to do your best to make sure your kids look as well turned out as possible, it’s easy to forget about your own appearance. In fact, the battle to get your teenager out of bed or persuade your little one to eat some breakfast may have led you to neglect getting dressed yourself.

  • Picture the scene: time is ticking away and the thin line between seeing them dart across the yard as the bell rings and the possibility of being late is threatening to fall on the wrong side. Nobody will notice if you just throw on a coat over your pyjamas, right?!

Eagle-eyed Emily, who is still managing to turn out two immaculately-dressed kids three days from the end of the autumn term, is sure to take note. But what do you care, she has never even cracked a smile at the school gates, as far as you can remember?

There is the argument that you should be setting a good example to your own kids, but to be honest, they probably won’t notice. Some mornings you could be dressed as Mr Blobby and they’d still walk past asking if you’ve seen their PE kit.

  • Perhaps you should take a leaf out of the book of the rich and famous, who can get away with wearing anything as long as it looks intentional. After all, how many times have we seen supermodels going to celebrity parties in what are essentially silky, designer pyjamas? If it’s good enough for Gigi Hadid, then it’s good enough for us.

So, the answer is clearly to invest in some smarter pyjamas and thank the great British weather for the coming autumn and winter, when an oversized coat won’t look too suspect. You could be wearing anything at all under that floor-length parka – the mind boggles.

Now, get going, otherwise everyone is going to be late for school!
