We’re all still sad that the Great British Bake Off as we know and love it has come to an end. Although Paul is moving to Channel Four with the show, sadly, Mary, Sue and Mel decided to stay put at the BBC, which means this summer’s series was the last featuring the dynamic foursome. Or was it?
You don’t need to mourn the end of GBBO quite yet, as there are going to be two festive specials on your TV this Christmas, bringing you cake, puns and possibly some Hollywood Handshakes.

While previous years have brought us Christmas Bake Off Masterclasses in December, where Mary and Paul give us all the details on how to create some of their favourite festive fancies, this year things are going to be different.
One of the Christmas specials will air on Christmas Day at 4.45pm – which is the ideal time for a post-turkey rest by our reckoning – with the second hitting our screens at 7pm on Boxing Day. Each of the shows will feature four of our favourite contestants from the ghost of GBBO past, so be ready to see some familiar faces.
We don’t yet know the full line up – well, we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise anyway – but we do know that series four’s Howard Middleton will be making an appearance. Howard was best known for having his perfect custard stolen, among a few other mishaps, which made him a firm favourite.

Another person who is making a return to the tent is Cathryn Dresser, who managed to reach fifth place in series three. She wowed with some of her stunning bakes and unusual catchphrases – let’s not forget ‘fridge and pray’ – and is sure to bring some festive spirit with her.
Whoever the rest of the contestants are, they’ll be challenged to whip up some delicious Christmas treats for the judges, as well as giving us our last dose of GBBO as we know it.
Will you be watching GBBO this Christmas?
