While many people use a Saturday night to let their hair down and to hit the town, others much prefer a good night in front of the TV. Saturday night TV has become a bit of an institution in the UK and you probably have memories of gathering around the box to watch your favourite shows.
Not much has changed over the years – especially as Ant and Dec can still be found hosting shows – and Saturday night TV is still a valued part of the week. While we may each have our own reasons for loving this tradition, there are some that are pretty universal.

Budget-friendly
A few drinks out at your local with friends is a nice way to spend an evening, but the cost can definitely add up if this is what you do every Saturday night. This is why so many of us choose to sit in and share a bottle of wine with friends and family while enjoying some entertaining TV.
Even if you grab a takeaway, it can work out much cheaper than going out for drinks and a meal, meaning you can enjoy more monthly treats. This is especially great if you’re on a tight budget, as you can just gather friends or family around and have fun.

It's a comfort thing
There’s something really comforting about knowing that if you have nothing else to do, you can enjoy a bit of TV on a Saturday night. Most of the shows that are on have been running for years – whether you love The X Factor or Casualty – so you know you’re going to be able to watch something you enjoy.
No matter why you want to stay at home on a Saturday night, you can’t beat putting on your PJs and popping your feet up, remote in hand.

Becomes a tradition
Saturday night TV is now a tradition for many families. You enjoyed it when you were a kid, so now your kids and grandchildren enjoy it too. Every single member of the family knows that dinner will be ready at a certain time, everyone sits in the same seats and the same channel or programme gets watched.
In fact, many people will even enjoy the same meal on a Saturday night, using it as an excuse for a treat after a week of being good.

Brings the family together
Perhaps the best thing about a Saturday night in front of the telly is the fact that it is a great way to spend time with the family. Everyone in your family probably has a lot on – especially as children get older – so it can be a bit like ships passing in the night during the week.
Knowing that Saturday nights are for family means everyone will be in the same place at the same time, allowing you to reconnect and have a good catch up. It will totally make up for you all being so busy every other night and could even continue when the kids leave home.

Favourite foods
A Saturday night in front of the telly is the perfect excuse for many of us to tuck into our fave foods. Most of us don’t want to spend our Saturday night in the kitchen, so we reach for the take out menus; fish & chips, burgers and curries all being popular choices with the whole family.
But don’t let Saturday nights ruin your diet. Why not skip the takeaway AND give the family the foods they want, with a healthy fakeaway cooked up in the ActiFry? With the new ActiFry Smart XL, it’s now even easier to make tasty home-cooked favourites without the guilt or a long time spent in the kitchen. Perfect for those nights in with the TV remote.
