The Best and Worst Kitchen Gadgets Out There

by Tefal Team on 09 September 2016
  • Most of us have one or two things in our kitchen that aren’t fit for purpose or that we regret buying. With so many kitchen gadgets out there, it can be tempting to shell out on something a little odd that promises to make your life easier.

However, this isn’t always the case and the majority of people end up with a draw of unused and unwanted gadgets that they could never quite get the hang of or that don’t do what they claim to.

On the other hand, some gadgets are worth the money and really do make cooking easier, leaving you wondering how you ever lived without them.

Here are some of the worst kitchen gadgets you might have hanging around and some of the best that you really need to buy:

  • Worst

    • Spaghetti fork

For some reason, people thought it would be a good idea to put a battery in a fork to make it spin. While this may have seemed like an ingenious idea to those who struggle to eat their noodles, it really just ends up flicking sauce all over the place and has probably been put in the dishwasher once so it no longer works.

    • Flavour injector

That’s right, some people thought it was a good idea to use a syringe in order to get more flavour into their food. For something so small, fiddly and difficult to clean, the price tag is fairly high. Not to mention the fact that you’ll probably only use this gadget once before realising that marinating is a lot less hassle!

    • Electric knife

Why do we think adding electricity to a standard kitchen gadget makes it better? You probably have an electric knife hanging around in a cupboard somewhere, but unless you want to trim a hedge or make a mess, you’re best off leaving it well alone.

    • Electric kettle

You may not think of the electric kettle as much of a kitchen gadget, especially as they seem to be in every single kitchen, but some people still use hob-top kettles. These are more expensive to run, take longer to boil and can’t be left on the hob for safety reasons. Next time you’re able to make a cup of tea in a few minutes, be happy that electric kettles exist.

    • Health grill

We’re always on the lookout for healthier ways to cook food, which is why many people turn to health grills when it comes to kitchen gadgets. These great grills can be used to prepare almost anything, quickly and evenly cooking food while draining away excess fat. The big plus is that you can store them away simply after using them.

    • Food processors

One gadget that really does make preparing and cooking food much easier is a food processor. As soon as you buy one, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. While some just cut, mix and pulse, others can even cook your food, making life so much simpler.

    • Multicookers

Gone are the days of only cooking food in a pan or the oven, as you can now get multicookers that totally transform how you make meals. Gadgets like our Cook4Me and 45 in 1 Multicooker offer so many options that you’ll never want to turn your oven on again!
