GBBO: Candice's Best Bits

by Tefal Team on 27 October 2016
  • On Wednesday night we waved goodbye to the Great British Bake Off as we know it as Candice Brown was crowned the winner of season seven. The 31-year-old PE teacher from Bedfordshire scooped the prize after a consistent performance throughout the competition.

She became known for her multi-coloured pout – which split opinions throughout the competition – penchant for a cheeky innuendos and over-the-top bakes. Not only did she claim the title of Star Baker three times throughout the competition, she is also the second best performer in technical challenges in the history of Bake Off.

With her eye for detail, Candice has definitely delivered some real show stoppers – we still can’t get over her gingerbread pub with sticky carpet – and was pitted for the final almost from the start. Here are some of the moments that made her the nation’s favourite.

  • Goodbye Genoise!

We’ve had our fair share of disastrous bakes ending up in the bin – let’s not forget the ice cream incident of 2014 – but no one has ever thrown their cake across the room before. That is until Candice, whose Genoise sponge in the first episode was too rubbery and so she threw it at the tent window, where it landed with a satisfying ‘thwack’.

  • 'Thank you... tart'

Fans were shocked when Candice appeared to call Merry Berry a tart while she was tasting the baker’s citrus meringue pie during botanicals week. While Candice was really commenting on the flavour of her pie, we couldn’t help but laugh at her choice of words.

  • Red for bread

There may have been one week where Candice’s lips were a little bit bland – we were not expecting her to opt for a nude shade – but for most of the competition she has rocked bright colours that caused several Twitter storms. Probably the best lipstick moment was when Mel helped her replenish her pout in the semi-finals, commenting “You without lipstick is not right”.

  • 'It's good to get your hands in...'

We all expect a certain level of double-entendre when it comes to GBBO – after all, Mel and Sue are true artists in the area – but Candice has given the presenters and Merry Berry a run for their money this year. Whether she had them at the ready on purpose or they simply came to her naturally, we don’t care as they all gave us a bit of a chuckle.

  • 'Thank you, like'

It would have been hard to beat Nadiya’s emotional speech at the end of series six, and last night Candice seemed too emotional to even try. When asked about her win at the end of the episode, she couldn’t get out more than ‘Thank you, like’, which we feel pretty much sums her up.
