Just as with fashion, food trends are now a seasonal thing – whether you like it or not. Each season brings with it various styles of cooking or specific foods that are a reaction to the weather and seasonal produce.
With summer being the time of year when we enjoy entertaining outside – or at least give it a try between the bouts of very British rain – garden party trends are coming about. Pinterest had a look at the latest food trends to see how we can step up our gastronomy game this summer.
From weird and wonderful to questionable, there are certainly a lot of options for to you try. However, we can’t guarantee that they’ll be worth giving a second go.

Pretty ice
According to Pinterest, the trend for pretty and decorative ice has increased by 82 per cent so far this year. Rather than just making drinks in pretty colours, the trend is seeing people create ice cubes that look good and inject an extra touch of flavour.
Fruit slices, herbs and berries are all good choices for ice cubes that look pretty and can add more flavour to a drink, meaning they are great for infusing water. They are also really easy to make and won’t break the bank.
Give Pimms with mint leaf ice cubes a try or even blueberry ice cubes for lemonade. Mixing up colours and flavours should help you create some interesting combinations.

Bunless barbecue
We’re all used to serving up burgers and sausages from the barbecue in a bread roll, but it seems like this might be a thing of the past if this new trend has anything to say about it. This trend has become 52 per cent more popular in recent months and is inspired by Korean barbecue.
It means you can serve up meat straight from the grill and keep those who can’t eat gluten happy too. Combine this type of barbecue with grilled vegetables for a really fresh and delicious dish.

Edible flowers
If you watched this season’s Great British Menu, you’ll have noticed an abundance of edible flowers. It seems as though this isn’t just a trend among chefs though, as 31 per cent more people are starting to add them to summer dishes.
They add lovely bright colours to food, as well as subtle bursts of flavours. However, not all flowers are edible so don’t be picking everything from your garden and serving it up on a salad. Of course, you could just opt for lots of fruit and veg, which is still super colourful.

Transformed fruit
Not only are dishes making use of fruit this season, they are also being served up in fruit. We’ve all seen crazy looking cocktails served up in coconut shells or hollowed out pineapple and it seems this is a trend that 37 per cent more people are getting on board with this season.
Use melons as bowls for ice cream or sorbet, serve up cocktails in the fruit used to make them and generally get creative. You can even add a little umbrella to the mix if you really want.
