Recipes to Use Your Freshly-Picked Blackberries

by Tefal Team on 24 August 2017
  • It isn’t just strawberries that are currently in season, you can also get your hands on deliciously sweet blackberries. If you’re looking for a great activity to do with your kids this summer that doesn’t cost a fortune, heading out to pick wild blackberries could be just the thing – especially as it gives you an excuse to whip up some great recipes.

While picking your own blackberries may mean you don’t end up with as many as you thought you would – let’s face it, everyone needs to test a few to make sure they taste okay – you get wonderfully fresh fruit that is ideal for both sweet and savoury dishes. We’ve found five super tasty recipes that are perfect whether you pick your own blackberries or pop to the supermarket to pick up a punnet.

  • Blackberry and lemon Eton mess

If there’s one dessert that is synonymous with the British summer, it has to be Eton mess. The combination of cream, fresh fruit and meringue is always delicious, not to mention being an easy dessert. While you usually serve Eton mess with strawberries, Giraffes Can Bake’s recipe makes the most of sweet blackberries and tart lemon curd, which is a match made in heaven. Just be sure to make enough for seconds!

  • Blackberry and pear galette with rosemary

You might not think that rosemary is a pudding ingredient, but it really works with the sweetness of blackberries and pears, making it the perfect addition to Foodness Gracious’ galette recipe. As well as being fairly simple, this recipe results in a tasty and filling dessert that can be served hot or cold, as well as with ice cream. It’s also perfect for getting the kids involved in the kitchen this summer.

  • Blackberry sorbet

After a warm afternoon of picking blackberries, we’re pretty sure cooling off with some sorbet is the best option. This is why Naturally Ella’s recipe is ideal, as it is incredibly simple and can be made with or without an ice cream maker – although you’ll need a blender if you’re whipping it up without an ice cream machine. With just four ingredients, this is an ideal recipe if you want to trick people into thinking you put in loads of work, plus it’s vegan so great for everyone.

  • Blackberry chocolate chunk muffins

While blueberries and raspberries may be the main fruits you think of when it comes to muffins, blackberries are definitely the way forward. Using them whole means you get a lovely burst of fruitiness, which teams perfectly with the dark chocolate. You’ll definitely be asked to make this recipe from Floating Kitchen again and again, so make sure you make the most of blackberry season.

  • Blackberry and goat's cheese tart

Blackberries definitely aren’t just for pudding, they can also help to lift savoury courses, especially when you team them with something as rich as goat’s cheese. This blackberry and goat’s cheese tart from Amuse Your Bouche is the ideal filling dish for a warm summer’s day or if you’re heading out on a picnic. Serve it hot or cold with a salad and you’ll be wanting to try adding blackberries to even more savoury dishes.
