Is there any food that is better or more versatile than cheese? No matter what your taste, you’re sure to find a cheese to suit it, as well as there being so many varieties suitable for most meals. Not to mention the fact that cheese is great whether it’s hot or cold, which basically means it is one of the best foods in the world.
However, we seem to be told constantly that cheese isn’t that good for you – although dairy is an important part of a balanced diet – and that we should cut down on the amount we eat. Well not any more!
It turns out that Swiss cheese could actually be healthy for you, in fact, it could even be classed as a superfood – as if we didn’t know that about cheese already.

According to the Metro, scientists in Korea have discovered that Swiss cheese is chock full of a probiotic called Propionibacterium freudenreichii, which works to actively reduce inflammation throughout your body. On top of this, it speeds up your immune system, leaving it better able to fight off illness.
In the short term, this means that you could enjoy quite a few Swiss cheese slices without suffering from indigestion, which seems like a very good thing to us.
While the probiotic has only been found in varieties of Swiss cheese so far, we have our fingers firmly crossed that researchers discover it in other types of cheese too, even if the high fat content of cheese means we’ll still need to enjoy it sensibly.

Another benefit of Swiss cheese is that it has a really high protein content. While it may not quite beat parmesan – which has 11 grams of protein per ounce, making it the richest cheese in protein – Swiss cheese comes close with eight grams per ounce. This means that an ounce of Swiss could give you between ten and 15 per cent of your daily intake of protein, which isn’t bad at all.
Swiss cheese is also full of calcium and phosphorus, which are both important for both growth and strength, making it a great choice for kids and adults alike.
All of this means it could be a great idea to swap your usual cheese choice for Swiss in order to make the most of these benefits and not feel guilty about enjoying a cheesy diet.
