Everyone loves a good food trend and the latest one is apparently for anything that looks a bit like a cloud. No, the latest healthy eating fad isn’t for candyfloss, it’s for eggs that are cooked so they look light, fluffy and very Instagrammable.
Cloud eggs may sound like something you’d get at the local hipster restaurant served on an old record or in a mason jar, but they seem to actually be pretty delicious – not to mention healthy. That isn’t to say you won’t find them in the ‘coolest’ restaurants, but you can also whip them up at home.
They are basically exactly what they sound like, eggs that look like clouds. The egg whites are whipped up like you’re making meringue – only without the sugar – so you get a lovely peaked and fluffy texture.

Pop your egg whites on a baking tray – we reckon baking paper is a good option too so they don’t stick – creating a cloud-like dome. Bake this for between five and seven minutes until the whites are cooked through but not crispy, before placing the egg yolk in the middle and baking for a couple more minutes.
You should be left with a slightly golden colour to your egg whites and deliciously soft yolk, resulting in an egg that only has around 160 calories, not to mention one that is perfect for hashtagging online.
It isn’t just cloud eggs that are all over social media right now either, as the trend actually started with cloud bread.

This is a similar idea to cloud eggs in that the bread is light, fluffy, easy to make and healthy. In fact, we’re sure you could even serve your cloud eggs on your cloud bread and break the internet!
To make cloud bread, you need to start by separating your egg whites again before mixing together the yolk and cream cheese. Then beat your egg whites with some cream of tartar until fluffy.
Fold the yolk mixture into the egg white mixture, being careful not to beat out all the air, before putting scoops onto a baking tray and putting in the oven for between 20 and 30 minutes until light golden brown. Top with your cloud egg and you’re done!
We wonder what other cloud-like food is going to become trendy soon.
