We love pasta. It’s a quick and simple meal that the whole family can enjoy. It can be cooked up in batch to feed a large group of people just as easily as it can be cooked for one and served cold for lunch.
Shop-bought, ready-made sauces are quick and easy to use, but often aren’t that good for us as they can often contain a lot of fat, sugar and salt. But have you ever tried making your own pasta sauce?
Making your own pasta sauce at home can be a lot healthier than using shop-bought jars. Plus you’ll be amazed at how simple it can be to make up a delicious pasta sauce from scratch. Here’s some of our favourite recipes to get you started.
- Avocado pasta
This deliciously creamy pasta recipe from Damn Delicious contains few ingredients – ripe avocados, fresh basil leaves, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil – and can be ready in just 20 minutes. Avocados are full of healthy fats, making this both delicious, full of flavour and good for you too.
- Creamy salmon and chive lemon pasta
I know what you’re thinking; surely a creamy recipe can’t be that healthy. But the creamy flavour in Hungry Healthy Happy’s recipe comes from Greek yoghurt, so don’t feel guilty about this one. Perfect flavours for a spring/summer pasta dish.
- Creamy linguine with bacon & cavolo nero
Okay, so this one from Purple Pumpkin is a bit more indulgent but we love it. Substituting light crème fraîche will help reduce the calories, and you’ll still get an irrestible homecooked pasta dish without the salt and sugar of pre-made sauces.
Cooking pasta sauce at home really doesn’t need to be as complicated as it may look. Give it a go and you’ll be amazed at the incredible pasta recipes that you can create from scratch with just a few ingredients and a small amount of time.
